gosh darn this coffee was good. Ordered a velvet elvis like everyone said... Its rich, flavorful, and not too sweet. The barista accidentally put expresso whipped cream but it was better that way! Everyone was so friendly and the coffee so good I had to go back for seconds. The cold brew is delicious also; it was perfect- not too acidic or bitter, and I didn't even need to add cream or sugar. A must! ps the bagels are good too

After spending the night at Tuolumne Meadows Lodge in Yosemite, we needed access to WiFi for work and decided to head into Mammoth over going into Yosemite Valley. Left at 0930, made it by 1025. Looney Bean is the first coffee shop after driving in to Mammoth in a little shopping center on the right. Free WiFi, outdoor seating available, and very sweet staff. We ordered a 16oz mocha w/o whip and a 16oz Americano. The cashier was courteous to ask if I needed space for cream, which I didn't need and also asked if we wanted whip for the mocha (which my husband declined). The place had a steady stream of people coming in for a late Tuesday morning. Solid 4 stars because my husband and I like our coffee a bit more stout. Easily opportunity for 5 stars on our next visit, when we'll order an extra shot in our beverages. Nice round coffee, earthy, cacao bean/super dark chocolate tastiness in the Americano, a hint of nutmeg in the mocha. Espresso was not acidic, not overly fruity. Maybe an Indonesian blend? It was right up our alley.

Hot coffee here is outstanding and so is the cold brew ice coffee. I am only giving 3/5 stars because my last visit they were out of cold brew for the 3rd time in a row and when asked what time I should come in for cold brew they said "I don't know" and followed up with "we should have some tomorrow, we might make it tonight". Come on... Don't have it on the main menu if you're not making it a consistently available product. Have it be a special or something if you want to pick and choose when you feel like making it. Ok so cold brew isn't always available but it is excellent when it is. So I ordered a regular ice coffee and yet again, regular it was. The normal ice coffee was very very weak. Added a splash of cream to it and it turned almost completely white. It tasted like coffee flavored water. I don't want to give this place a bad wrap because it's a great overall spot with mostly friendly staff, but that ice coffee wasn't a good example of quality. My girlfriend for an ice chai tea, and she's not one for strong drinks and even she said it might be the worst she's ever had because it was so weak. I tasted it and it was really watery. I am obviously a very small sample size but I would recommend sticking to hot coffee drinks and their cold brew when available as they definitely kill it in that realm. Their other cold drinks thus far have been pretty terrible.

I checked out this place after learning they roast their own beans and have a variety of brewing methods including trifecta and pour overs. I tried the coffee from Peru, but it had just a slight bitter taste. I wasn't sure if it was the coffee itself or if they didn't use quite enough grounds which can cause a slight bitterness. I will definitely come back and try another roast. I also got a blueberry cream cheese pastry which was heavenly. The service was friendly. I'll be back.

I love this little coffee chain. They always have such great service and coffee. I had to stop by twice this trip. Also, I would try the breakfast burritos- perfect thing to take on the road before a hike/adventure. I wish they would have been a little warmer, though.

Cold brew was strong and flavorful! Just the way I like it. Atmosphere was chill, great for working, writing, or reading. I love their small round wooden tables-- a plus!

On our way to Whitney Portal and had about 5 hours to kill. Asked if they minded is hanging out there for the time and they said "not at all". Had a great Americano, muffin, cold pressed coffee and empanada. Nice lounge area too. Thanks again!

I see the Looney Bean every time I drive through Bishop, but had never stopped in. Found out that there was now one in Mammoth proper so my friends and I decided to get our morning java fix there and try it out. I'm happy to say that it's a delightful coffee shop with a friendly local non-chainy (even though there's at least 2) vibe. My friend got a pumpkin latte (made with real puree, not syrup!) and I got a vanilla latte--they were excellent! So much better than Starbucks. We loved our coffees so much we went back the next morning for some more. I tried their Looney Latte, this time, which was basically a vanilla latte with whipped cream and chocolate-covered espresso beans on top. It was delicious but a little bit too much of a sugar overload for me. I'll just stick to a basic latte next time :) Friendly servers, great coffee and reasonable prices--if you haven't been, it's time to go! STEPH JUDGEMENT: A delightful local coffee shop that wins on all counts!

I make Looney Bean my morning staple whenever I am in Mammoth. It is the ultimate local coffee shop. Tucked away in a strip mall on Old Main, it is filled with climbers and hikers in the summer and skiiers in the winter, planning their day's adventures. In the afternoon, people hang out using the wifi or sit outside with friends. The lattes are great -- I always get a quad latte (four shots) in the morning which somehow I find counteracts the altitude. They have a delicious blueberry bran muffin and my kids love the chocolate croissant. As testament to their local popularity, there is often a line out the door, but it is efficiently worked down. There are a bunch of places to get good coffee in Mammoth now, but this is my favorite.

Coffee quality: above Starbucks, comparable to Peet's, not as good as Black Velvet. Prices: For normal coffee, reasonable ($3 for my small). One nice thing about regular coffee is that they have self-serve refills, which actually makes for great value if you're going to stay put for a while. But beware: I think the cups are biodegradable, because they start melting and falling apart after a while. The barista kindly replaced mine when that happened. For the specialty drinks, prices are steep ($5 for my wife's small Velvet Elvis). Environment: Fine for conversing or for studying if you don't mind low light.

Nice atmosphere, good quality coffee. The staff is friendly and helpful. I will come back when I'm in Mammoth Lake.

Wow... You need to try to velet Elvis it is out of this world. White mocha and caremal. Can't go wrong. And the service is very friendly. Great atmosphere. Free WiFi... If you are just passing through and need WiFi and a coffee this is the place to go !!!

I came here twice during my weekend in Mammoth and really enjoyed it. It's obviously a popular spot as there was a line both days. They've got a the typical selection of coffee (and coffee variations), tea, and hot chocolate drinks as well as pastries (and apparently savory food too). I ordered a nonfat latte the first day tried the regular coffee on both days as well. The latte was pretty good, although not the best I've had. I enjoyed the coffee options they had available both times. Some of the specialty drinks ordered by others in my group (like the Looney Latte) looked and sounded really good. I sampled their almond blueberry cookie as well as the chocolate chip scone. Both were okay although they had a very similar, cake-like texture that was on the dry side. I think the scone was better than the cookie since I happen to like dry, crumbly scones. The real standout pastry was the strawberry cheese danish my friend ordered. The cheese and strawberry filling was delicious and the pastry portion was soft and buttery. Definitely a winner. The service is good and the interior is a cozy place. It's probably even more inviting in the winter time. They also have an outdoor patio, which was pleasant. I would definitely return here next time I'm in Mammoth.

I like coffee that tastes great without sugar and the latte I had this morning was fantastic. The atmosphere in the shop was homey and warm and all the customers seemed content. The service was fast, but aloof.

We stopped for coffee and tea... it was nice. We will stop again. We also left with a pound of Costa Rican coffee.

  • Cara R.

We stopped in while on vacation right before closing one night. The barista was very friendly and made up a drink for my BF since they ran out of pumpkin syrup (which he loved). We came back in the next morning. Employees were equally as friendly and made a frozen pumpkin spice latte for my BF (something new), checked with him to make sure it was ok, and adjusted it to make it better. I had a plain drip coffee, which was brewed fresh since they were out. I would definitely come back if we're in town.

I really wanted to rate this place higher. Great vibe with couches & chairs indoors, and outdoor seating with umbrellas. The latter and mocha we had were good but both weren't anywhere as hot as they should be. Not many baked goods available, but what was there looked great. The service was a little lack luster but I think she just might have been new & concentrating. I hold out hope this was just an anomaly.

Interesting.....took forever, about 15 minutes, to get our iced coffees (just coffee poured over ice in a cup, we added our own sweetener and milk). Tasted pretty good once we got it and I am very picky as a former espresso bar owner. My Dad ordered a smoothie and watched it being made! He said she kept putting it in the cup and it didn't fill it up, so she'd add more stuff and blend it again, then back in the cup - she ended up blending it 3 times! He did like it once he got it, though. From my standpoint (owner/trainer espresso bar), this says more about the training and leadership then the server. They need to work on their recipes and training. It was not crowded when we were there, weekday (Monday), about 10am. I'd go again, but this time know it may take a while.

I was a little disappointed in the lack of pastry selection but we were in town during the shoulder season. I had a blueberry scone that was okay but my husband had a chocolate croissant that was incredible! Slightly crunchy on the outside with warm gooey chocolate within, mmmmmm. Its cozy and cute inside. Lots of places to sit and a fireplace. We will definitely try the Looney Bean again when we return to Mammoth

  • Rose Marie A.

Ordered the macchiato (dry), was delicious! Just the kick I needed for the day...don't forget the free wi-fi, so sit down sip your coffee and enjoy... The decor kinda reminds of Tamarack lodge, the rustic cabin feel with ample seating of two comfy ottoman chairs and ottoman stool, facing the fireplace. No fire today, it was rather warm and sunny outside. There's bar table facing out to the parking lot. They also had tables and chairs that can fit small groups. Two hanging plants and a small palm tree in the corner, adds a home feel to it as well. Lots of locals here, I overheard the barista, shouted a order for a customer without asking what she wanted. She knew.

Nothing spectacular, but a solid little cafe. The interior space is a little more intimate and cozy than nearby competition, but the capp I had wasn't that great and the breakfast burrito was a little stale. If you want to sit around in a comfy chair for a bit come here, otherwise there are better options in town

Was visiting Mammoth over NYE and wanted to support the local small businesses. Came to Looney Bean at the recommendation of my yoga instructor. Ended up with very overpriced coffee that did not meet expectations at all. Was initially planning on staying to do work, but the ambiance of the coffee shop itself felt very dark and dismal I decided to just take the drink home.

  • Sara P.

Love this place! It's always super comfortable here, I have yet to have a drink here that I didn't like, and they're bake goods are delicious!! The staff is always warm and friendly, they make you feel welcomed and are willing to help you decide on a drink if you can't make up your mind... And I've done this quite a few times! They have couches for you to lounge on or you can take your drink outside.

Local Coffee Shop. They Roast their Own Beans. Hey, they roast most of the coffee beans in the area. My mainstay coffee shop while in Mammoth. Great little coffee shop. Cute, Mammoth-vibe with the charming interior and the locals frequenting the place. Delicious coffee served. I could count the number of coffee shops left with fireplaces in them. This is one of those charmers.

Bishop Looney Bean wins this match. You can't go wrong with Looney Bean. their drinks are awesome, customer service however... I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, which is normally followed by "would you like it heated". Not this time. Bag. Counter. Do people enjoy eating room temperature ham and cheese? Because I sure freakin don't! Especially when you're paying $4 for the thing... It took about 15 min to get my drink. I watched my empty cup sitting on the counter for way too long for a guy currently late for work. Aside from the service though, I'd absolutely recommend the coffee and food. But if you have the time, or you're headed out of town, stop at the Bishop location. They warm up your gross-to-eat-cold food :)

Very cute place! Pastries slightly dry but the coffee is good and the people are friendly and laid back.

  • Quinn B.

Great location and so much better than the usual Starbucks. The decor is so cute and fits perfectly with the town-rustic! The employees here are really nice and they serve great coffee. They can make you whatever you want. I love a great Chai or non fat vanilla late. They will not kick you out, you can hang out here as long as you like and enjoy the free wi-fi. Definitely recommend this place for winter or summer. They have a fireplace for winter and you can sit outside in the summer.

I just discovered this place this year FEB 2012 The bean is definitely going to be my first stop when I visit Mammoth. It's very chill here. People bring their lap tops to study, social with family & friends, listen to your ipod. Plenty of parking outside. One of the best coffee shops in Mammoth!

    (4)
  • Hymie H.

Great coffee. I love the atmosphere. There is free WiFi. Great place to hang out. They have a granola breakfastish bar that is delicious. It is only $1! If you check in you can also get 15% off your bill.

Loooooove this place. Both locations are so good! Bishop location parking sucks but great coffee makes up for it!

    (5)
  • Mcap A.

Love the coffee, but here is our theory about the women who work there and why they have bad attitudes. The clientele here is primarily unattractive, balding, unkept men who think they deserve a Playboy bunny (who can ski or snowboard) trophy girlfriend/wife. They give attention to the women behind the counter who in turn serve bad attitude toward women who encroach upon their feel-good zone. Ladies, we have no desire to steal one of your Mammoth men.

This place saved my life when our wireless went down in Mammoth and the library was closed. Inside is nice and cozy and there are a lot of outlets available to plug in. There's also a lot of nice seating outside when it's warm enough to sit out there. I was already anxietized from not having internet all night, so I decided to get some Jasmine tea to calm me down. The tea was made from a huge tea bag which I think they made themselves and it was delicious. I probably could have saved the bag and just added more hot water to make myself some more tea. The environment was also super friendly and relaxing. I've heard the coffee is pretty delicious too, and that's just the plain stuff where you gotta add your own milk and sugar. I'll have to try their food next time I go. Best of all... they had a clean bathroom with soft 2-ply toilet paper.

I had some reviews about the customer service being "meh" here, but I had a great experience with a super friendly employee. I ordered an almond milk chai and it was delish. I tried their drip coffee too, just because they roast their own so wanted to see for myself and thought that was very good too. I got a pre made burrito for my hubby and he said it was pretty good. I will def choose this place as my go to coffee shop when visiting mammoth from here on out!

Looney Bean is one of the better coffee shops in Mammoth. The atmosphere is amazing, but parking (outside and in) can be hard to find. The baristas are pretty friendly for the most part, although I can echo some of the reviews about having to fight to get someone's attention -- The girls tend to disperse and get lost in themselves/conversations. I was never in a hurry so I didn't mind, but that's something that would normally drive me up the wall. The coffee is so-so. The espresso here has a unique taste (make of that what you will) and everything is still made in a pretty old school way, which is nice to see. There are always four varieties of brewed coffee available (decaf, medium, dark and flavour) and refills are free if you're staying around. I can't vouch for the pastries as I'm not really a sweets person, and the prices were horrific, but I do know that they're made fresh daily, and I believe some were gluten-free. This would have been a 3-star review, but free refills on brewed coffee and free wi-fi made it a 4.

Ladies at the front didn't seem too outgoing, but the shop is very comfortable. Fireplace, and seating inside. Better kickback feel then your standard Starbucks.

So glad I stopped in to grab a iceed coffee. Man something so simple, better than starbucks and less expensive. Staff is super friendly and very educated on there products. Quick service too!!! Ill be back on my next vacation or anytime I'm in town. Must go if your a coffee lover.

Perfect coffee shop after a long drive to get to Mammoth and few hours on the mountain skiing. The waitress was really sweet and my cappuccino was tasting good. Wish i could have had more foam. Very chill atmosphere. Just sit there and enjoy some quiet time before going back to hotel.

  • Glenn G.

Lousy service... "Curly-haired blonde woman" thinks you need to stand in front of her while she makes your drink. If you don't, she'll make it, sit it on the counter, not announce it's ready, and wait 'till you ask for it. She needs to go somewhere else - she's obviously distainful of some customers (if you're her "pal," she's very nice to you).

    (1)
  • Jodi R.

Who let the grumpasaurus out at looney bean?! We went in to get a search and rescue bar and the chic working the front was really rude and too busy counting her tips. She made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by ordering. What happened to customer service? I think it's bc we were not locals. She sucks. I don't want to wake up to her ever again.

This place is great. The weekend I came to Mammoth Lakes I had two online midterms to complete. The internet everywhere in Mammoth is suuuuper slow, so I was very stressed because I wasn't able to find wifi fast enough to stream my online lectures. I tried three different coffee shops, and this was by far the best. Starbucks sucks, and I couldn't even get a wifi connection. Plus it's Starbucks and I avoid the place and their North Face-clad patrons at the Village. Next I came here and the place is cozy and thank GOD the internet is fast enough for me to watch approximately 6 hours of online lectures, plus study. There's a fireplace, great tea (I don't drink coffee) and snacks. Plus I just heard someone order a blueberry spinach smoothie which I'm going to try later. After Looney Bean closed, I went to Black Velvet which sucked. Not only was it "modern" in decor (ie sparse and not coffee-shop like), but the internet was super slow and the barista was rude. I'll be back to Looney Bean every time I'm in Mammoth now, since they allowed me to camp out all day with my books and computer. Recommend you come here too!

    (5)
  • Kristen S.

The coffee is always good and they have tons of different teas. The inside is pretty cozy and has a little fireplace. The location is perfect because you don't have to try to park and wait in lines at the village during the busy season.

i wish there was a looney bean by my house! had to get some work done during my weekend in mammoth and looney bean was the perfect spot. such friendly staff and the best coffee!

Very good espresso, pleasant staff who will make what you ask for, unlike the other place up the street. One of my coffee homes away from home. Update: a year later, same good experience. Outdoor seating is welcome and dog-friendly.

  • James T.

Had to stop by this spot for coffee for the long ride home. It was self serve since they handed me a cup. There are 6 different types of coffee to choose from which I sampled all and ended up with the French Roast. I was here about 9ish on a Sunday morning and there were plenty of seats in and outside with free wifi. I'm not a coffee drinking but I sure enjoyed this one and would rather come here than any other coffee chain shops. I'll defnitiely be back next month.

Velvet f'ing Elvis. It's the local coffee hangout and always on my stop list while in town and passing thru Bishop. They roast their own beans (always a must in my coffee shop book) and do a great job. Support the locals amigos.

free wifi = winner If the cabin you are renting this winter doesnt have internet, this is the place to go!...get some coffee or tea while youre at it. Its cold out There is a good amount of seating even though tables are kind of small.

I love looney bean!! They have amazing coffee as well as amazing employees!! I can point out that the lady that helped me I'm pretty sure her name was Adrianna. She was amazing!! So nice and so cute with a go get em attitude. I will for sure come back!!

  • Mayte D.

Cute cafe with lots of seating and free wi-fi. Had an organic shot of espresso over ice and it was a little bitter, but I appreciate that they had an organic option in the first place. Clean restroom and lots of free parking! Bonus: next to Z Pizza (which has vegan Daiya cheese), and a natural foods market!

Solid Beans, appealing pastries, fun atmosphere. Fireplace, a good cup of something hot, an old leather sofa, and a good book. Looney provides all of the above.

  • Susy B.

Wide selection of drinks, service always excellent, large seating area, fireplace, and free wifi. I try to stop in whenever I'm in town to lounge around sipping a mocha or tea after a fantastic day on the slopes. Minus a star for the early closing time: 7 ish?

I just wanted to run in and grab a pound of ground coffee and no one asked if I needed help... I had to seek a group of employees and break up their convo to get some assistance. I found it to be a bit expensive but I guess it was worth it since the coffee is good.

    (3)
  • Kirk F.

Good local vibe. I get the mountain energy running on a coffee. I like the extension cords to power laptops in the patio, and the people are nice. The food is good too. The coffee is excellent, the best I found in Mammoth. It's worth a little splurge for the organic espresso. Excellent stuff.

  • Alex K.

I love a local coffee joint. Especially with free Wi-fi. Where do you think I'm writing this review? Looney Bean is a small chain of coffee houses, but the one here in Mammoth Lakes is awesome. This place is tucked away in the corner in the same plaza as Rite Aid. Service is friendly, and I bought this apple strudel that is covered in powdered sugar and looks like, what else? A snow-capped mountain. It's HUGE! Lots of cinnamon, and apple sugary goodness. The wireless seems to run kind of slow. It might be my laptop. But the atmosphere was cozy, the art on the wall was for sale, and the music in the background was like going to one of the nice independent coffee shops back at home.

Without a doubt the best coffee in Mammoth. They brew with good beans and put pride into their product. Now wonder starnuts went out of business... LOL... And their food is good. Where else can you get real fresh eggs, true fresh local eggs? Wraps are excellent. Free wireless. And the ladies behind the counter have an awesome attitude. It is our official stop for road food when we leave Mammoth.

  • Dan H.

We are coffee house lovers, and this one tops the list! They have an awesome, original menu and the items we had were amazing! The staff was even super fun as they waited for my wife to take her sweet time deciding what to order!!! We will be back each time we hit Mammoth!!

    (5)
  • Lori S.

Good coffee, many choices for tea ... much better than Starbucks! But, the real find is the homemade ice cream! They have 7 or 8 flavors daily in summer. You pay a bit more, but you get very good quality ice cream. We were in Mammoth for 5 days and went there twice! Blueberry, peaches & cream, and Mud pie were our favorite flavors.

  • Eva V.

Super cozy, great coffee, and free Wi-Fi. This place is a Mammoth staple and even though it's a chain it feels like it's really part of the local community. On my most recent trip the place was filled with locals getting this morning coffee before work, people heading out to hit the trails, lounging travelers, and friends have a cup and a chat. A great place to sit, have a coffee, and get some work done on a not-so-work-free vacation!

  • Moon D.

OK, I'll admit it. I'm may be considered a coffee snob but I really like good coffee. I'll also admit that the term "good coffee" could be subjective. That said, I appreciate people who do their best to put out a great product with a good attitude in a nice atmosphere. Looney Bean does all three in both locations in Mammoth Lakes and in Bishop. I'm partial to dark roasts. Black Diamond is my favorite. I should state that when I go out for coffee that's what I get- coffee. No blended mochachino decaf soy lattes for this boy. If somebody complains about how expensive those sissy drinks are I say too bad.

  • Lindsey H.

Seriously, the only coffee house worth going to in town. Being a true Seattlite (its true, we LOVE our coffee) I'm pretty particular about my brew. Try the Velvet Elvis. YUM! Also, the atmosphere is chill with a fireplace and lots of comfy couches, and the baristas are super friendly. I would give them 6 stars if I could based solely on the fact that the type of whip cream on my drink was really thick and dense and didnt melt and disappear into a disappointing coffee oblivion.

  • Jon D.

Every time I make the trip to Mammoth, Looney Bean is the first place I stop in and it's the last place I hit on my way out. The coffee is just that good. Lately, I've noticed that I'm not as desperate to hit them up on my way in, only because chances are, I've already hit the Looney Bean in Bishop (yay for a second location!) on my way north. But definitely, without a doubt, I always hit the Bean on my way out so that I can be prepared for that long drive south. The coffee is great. The make some fantastic espresso drinks. But I gotta say, where the Looney Bean particularly shines is with their pastries. Seriously - I'm not usually even a scone or pastry guy. But when I stop in, I ALWAYS pick up a scone and one of those berry danish dealy-o's. SO GOOD. Get there early though - these pastries sell out fast. And once you have one, you'll totally understand why. Parking at both Shops is good. And if it's a sunny spring day, you'll be more than tempted to hang outside for a while and just soak up some rays while you soak up the caffeine. And both shops have free Wi-Fi and great artwork on the walls - usually from local photographers. A big plus for me b/c I'm a photographer and I love to admire the shots that the locals take. Amazing stuff. Best coffee shop east of the Sierras - hands down.

The employees are friendly, the coffee is great, and the music is perfect for relaxing. If only it had a view of the mountain...

I really wish I had seen Emmanuel F.'s review. Waaaaay too much cinnamon for my liking. A bit pricey for a quad soy mocha, tipped the cash register at over $6.00. The muffins were ginormous. A meal unto themselves. Lots of locals and that is always a good sign for a coffee shop.

I heart Looney Bean. There coffee is fantastic and the line isn't as long as the Starbucks. I picked a couple of pounds for a gift and myself. It was a little pricey but I was on vacation so it comes with the territory, about $15 a pound. The staff was by far the most friendly and accommodating on the planet. The staff who work on Friday 3/11/11 in the afternoon deserve a bonus and public recognition. The group was so helpful. Even an off duty employee hanging out helped us with our choices. So I got the Whiskey and the Guatama. We received free cups of joe and they even gave me a little extra ground up so we could enjoy in our cabin. How ever hired this bunch is a smart person. Thanks again Looney Bean

Looney Bean won my heart when I went with my second family (my best friend and her mama/papa bear) to Mammoth. Their drinks hit the SPOT after a long day of skiing. I really like that the drink names have a sense of humor, too. Seems like a super fun environment, everyone was joking around and it's GREAT that there are books/comfy chairs to lounge around in away from the cold. I kept going back to the Looney Vanilla Latte (did I get that right?) it's the one with chocolate covered espresso beans in the bottom.

This is the place to go when you want to sit in a big comfy chair by the fire, enjoying free wi-fi and meeting friendly people. The baristas were all super friendly, the cookies and pastries were fresh and yummy too. Good tea selection, and any kind of coffee drink you can imagine, served the way you want it. There was a really nice vibe in here, very cozy, friendly locals and visitors.

I was just up in the Mammoth area this past weekend. And stumbled upon this place. It was AMAZING. I got a Velvet Elvis and I can not compare that drink to any coffee drink I've ever had. It's a white mocha with a few pumps of carmel with whipped cream on top. I think it's even better with looney dust on top of the drink. Don't really know what is in that dust though, but it was good. If you are ever up in that area, it's a place you must go. It's kind of hidden behind the Subway and next to a laundry place by Rite-Aid and the Do It Center.

I am dissapointed in customer service at the Bean. Longtime local, I have had their Looney cards and whenever I had birthday I would get cards from my friends. You cannot see how many free coffees you have earned b/c the register doesn't have a customer side screen. So the girls kept telling me I had free coffees and when I asked them to use it, they either forgot or did not know how to do it. Suddenly I had no free coffees left to use but paid for every single coffee. Also, it's hard to know the balance on your card if you don't have a screen you can read on customer side. Many times rude customer service almost made me feel like I bother them. The only thing I really like is the feel of the place and the wi-fi. Coffee is a hit or miss (I drink drip coffee so not sure on their espresso drinks).

I liked this place better when it was located next to the gas station on Rte 203, as the building and decor gave it more character there. I'm not into frou frou drinks, but the filter coffee is fine, though the baked goods are more of an impetus to stop by nowadays. I have more of an issue with the staff, who are usually cute and not terribly bright, which makes for inefficient service at the best of times, and downright frustrating service otherwise.

Pricey but good. Nothing to go out of your way for.

A cold refreshing beverage is always good after a long day riding around on a bad motorscooter. I had a mocha frappachino graciously paid for by my riding partner... ya can't beat a free cool refreshing beverage on a hot day. Nothing special, tasted just like any other place. The ambiance seemed kinda chillax, but that's to be expected from a resort town.

So, I was happy to find something other than a Starbucks. I did. My soy latte was good, not too sweet. However, the girl at the espresso machine had long blond hair that she neglected to think was necessary to tie back in food service settings. I don't know. I'm female, I have hair and when I cook I tie it BACK. Then, every other move of her hands in between tamping grounds and pouring milk was to pull up her tube top dress, wipe her eyes, and you've got it, push her long locks behind her ears. Sorry, there's a certain level of hygienic behavior one should expect from 2 coffee drinks that added up to 10 bucks. I know it's the mountains but get some hair ties and use them, and wear a top that doesn't have to be yanked up every 30 seconds. Next time I'm going to Starbucks.

The mocha was different with a bit of cinnamon (if you like that), and the latte was really delicious. It's tucked away in the Rite-Aid shopping center in the back corner next to the laundromat.
